Privacy Policy

Last updated October 20, 2026

This policy explains what information Lanka Yoga Village collects when you use this website, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep it deliberately short and in plain language.

1. Who we are

Lanka Yoga Village is a yoga retreat and practice community based at Sri Bodhicitta Yogi Hermitage, Kurunegoda, Sri Lanka. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" refer to Lanka Yoga Village.

You can reach us about anything in this policy at lankayogavillage@gmail.com.

2. Information you give us

We only collect the information you choose to share with us in order to run the site and respond to you:

  • Contact form: your name, email address, the topic you select, and the content of your message.
  • Member account: your name, email address, and the password you set. Passwords are stored securely and are never visible to us.
  • Gallery and blog contributions: photographs, captions or articles you submit, together with the contributor name you provide.
  • Bookings and enquiries: the details you send us when you ask about or reserve a retreat, class or stay.

3. Signing in with Google

You may choose to create an account or sign in using your Google account. When you do, Google shares a limited set of information with us: your name, your email address, your profile picture, and a unique identifier for your Google account. We use this only to create and recognise your account and to display your name and picture alongside anything you publish on the site.

We do not request or access your Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Contacts, Google Photos, or any other Google product data. We do not sell information received from Google, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not transfer it to third parties except as needed to operate the site or as required by law.

Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. You can revoke our access at any time from your Google Account permissions page, and you can ask us to delete your account by emailing us.

4. Information collected automatically

Our hosting and authentication providers automatically record standard technical information when you visit the site, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you view and the time of your visit. This information is used for security, troubleshooting and understanding which parts of the site are useful.

We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

5. How we use your information

We use the information described above to:

  • Create and secure your account, and sign you in.
  • Reply to your messages and organise retreats, classes and stays you have asked about.
  • Publish the gallery photographs and blog articles that contributors choose to share.
  • Keep the site secure, prevent spam and abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

6. Cookies and local storage

We use strictly necessary cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in and to remember basic preferences. Without these, features such as your account, the blog editor and the gallery uploader would not work. We do not use marketing or analytics cookies that follow you across other websites.

7. When we share information

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only in these situations:

  • Service providers: our hosting, database, authentication and email delivery providers process data on our behalf so the site can function.
  • Google, when you choose to sign in with Google, as described in section 3.
  • Public areas: photographs and articles you deliberately submit to the gallery or blog are visible to everyone, including your contributor name and any caption you add.
  • Legal requirements: where we are required to disclose information by law, or to protect the rights, safety and property of our guests, our community or us.

8. How long we keep information

We keep contact messages for as long as needed to handle your enquiry, and account information for as long as your account is open. Gallery and blog contributions stay published until you ask us to remove them or the contributor deletes them. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or remove anything that identifies you.

9. Your rights and choices

You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can also ask us to stop emailing you, or withdraw your consent for a Google sign-in at any time. To do any of these, email lankayogavillage@gmail.com and we will respond within a reasonable period.

10. Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls and limited staff access. No website can guarantee perfect security, so please choose a strong, unique password and let us know straight away if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

11. Children

The site is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Where your information is stored

Our service providers may store and process data in countries other than Sri Lanka, including the United States and the European Union. Where that happens, we rely on our providers contractual safeguards to keep your information protected.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site or the law changes. The date at the top shows the most recent version, and significant changes will be announced on the site.
